Friends group raises £150,000
ANNOUNCEMENT
To all of our members and supporters.
It is with a considerable amount of pride and pleasure that I can announce the latest milestone for our group. During Imperial Cancer Research Fund's annual Volunteers' Conference, which took place on 31st October at The Royal College of Surgeons in London, Sir Paul Nurse (Director General of Imperial Cancer) will presented us with a certificate to commemorate £150,000 raised by us since our foundation just over 12 years ago (see below).
The certificate is a testimony to the hard work of our talented group of volunteers,
many of whom have been with the group since the very first meeting. A lot of effort
in the early years went into establishing our "brand" and in trying out any number
of ideas to see what would work. To put this in proper perspective, in our first
year of operations we raised just over £2,000 and we were into our fourth year before
£10,000 was passed. Quite a contrast to the year which is just coming to a close
when the group's profit will top £33,000. We are in fact already well on the way
to the next milestone of £200,000 and would hope to pass £250,000 within another

...and while it was good to be recognised for our achievements, there were other groups receiving their £200,000 certificates so we've still got targets to beat!
In his speech, Sir Paul referred to the £65 million spent last year by the ICRF on research; this research is funded by people like you supporting our functions; thank you for your efforts and please don't stop!

And we finally get the official picture... sadly due to characteristic scanning incompetence the person who should be on the left of the picture has been cut off!
Sir Paul Nurse is the gentleman who wasn't in the picture above (ie second from the right).
